Since accepting its first rescue 25 years ago, Straydog has been committed to fulfilling its mission of providing second chances to homeless dogs. While we are proud of all we’ve accomplished in our 25-year tenure, we are reminded daily that there is still work to be done.

Once again, as the holiday season draws closer, we find our shelter over capacity with more than 170 dogs in our care. We are thrilled to share that during the holiday season, adoptions increase. This is because people are more apt to add a new fur friend to their family during this time of year. But, unfortunately, for every adoption, we receive at least five requests to take in an animal with nowhere else to go, straining our very limited resources.

To help support our increased need, a group of generous donors has issued a $55,000 matching gift challenge! Through December 31st, every dollar you donate will be matched – dollar for dollar – up to $55,000. Since winter is the most challenging time for our fur friends, this matching gift challenge couldn't have come at a better time.

Your donation will go a long way in supporting the care we provide to our special friends, like Millie and her 3 puppies. Millie and her puppies were found under an abandoned trailer. Her puppies were only 1 week old at the time. Had our team not found Millie and her family, who knows what would have happened to this precious, vulnerable family. Today, this sweet family is in Straydog’s care receiving medical treatment, socialization training, and the love and attention they deserve. With the puppies nearly ready for adoption and mom not too far behind, we know this is going to be another Straydog happy ending.

Over the last 25 years, we have given hundreds of homeless dogs the chance to live a life they deserve . . . full of love and happiness. We are proud of the impact we've made in our community. But as they say, there is still much left to do. As one of North Texas' only no-kill shelters and sanctuaries, we are dedicated to doing whatever we can to help pets in need. To do so, we need your help. During this holiday season, we hope there is room in your heart for the dogs of Straydog.
